Skibbereen plays host to an exciting Arts Festival from Sunday, July 18th to Sunday, August 1st and for this second edition the organisers have put together a truly remarkable programme. With an eclectic line up, it’s sure to be a cultural exchange catering for all.
Highlights include Skibbereen Sound and Vision; a series of film and sound events comprising the enchanted works of Guillaume Beauron, Kevin Brew and The Quiet Club. The world’s foremost nature sound recordist, Chris Watson, will be presenting his work entitled ‘At the ends of the Earth’ in the atmospheric Abbeystrewry Church, in what is sure to be a captivating evening.
The Town Hall in Skibbereen will be the stage for a storytelling night with the peerless Tommy Tiernan. The multi award winning comic will be regaling folktales, parables and myths, mixed in with his own flights of fancy.
The Irish Chamber Orchestra, the best orchestra in this country by far, perform in Skibbereen following the success of their major tour of China and Singapore.
A tribute concert to the renowned music collector Canon James Goodman with Steve Cooney & Mairtín O’ Connor, supreme choral singing with Cór Cúil Aodha and Cór Thaobh a’ Leithíd from Donegal, an Elvis Tribute night with Emerald Elvis, poetry readings with Tom French and Leanne O’ Sullivan, theatre with The Science of Flan O’ Brien and Moby Dick and an action packed Skibbereen Children’s Festival.
All reaching a crescendo on July 31st with the 4th edition of Cork x Southwest, Ireland’s best new eclectic music festival featuring Martha Wainright, Bonnie Prince Billy, The Hothouse Flowers, The Frank and Walters, Mick Flannery, John Spillane, and a huge roll call of bands, musicians, DJ’s and comedians plus West Cork’s finest food and beverages.
