Cork’s Lifelong Learning Festival is unique – the only event of its kind which showcases and celebrates learning from the cradle to post-retirement, and caters for all abilities and interests – from leisure activities to the gaining of formal qualifications. All events during festival week are free.

The festival is organised by the Learning Forum, set up by the City Development Board, and is part of its strategy of demonstrating that Cork is a City of Learning . Its main sponsors are Cork City Council, City of Cork VEC , and FETAC (the Further Education & Training Awards Council). The Evening Echo & 96fm are its media sponsors.

The festival’s motto is Investigate! Participate! Celebrate! – and the public can do so by enjoying events of all kinds, by taking part in, for example, tours, talks, workshops, taster sessions, and by seeing work produced by others already involved in learning.

During festival week there’s lots of emphasis on fun and on taking learning out among the public – with displays and demonstrations in shopping centres and activities in venues of all kinds – on the river, in parks, community and resource centres, museums, theatres, colleges. People can try out a variety of skills and can enjoy watching performances of drama and music. And remember – all events are free.
