The 2010 Carrigtwohill’s Medieval Festival and Country Fair in County Cork, Ireland, will bring the traditions of the Irish countryside to life.

Set in the magical surroundings of Barryscourt Castle, near Cork City, the excitement of days past will be presented in the Medieval Village, with archery, jousting and knights on horseback. Living history exhibitions and displays will include the re-enactment of WW2 battles, complete with explosives and machine gun fire – suitably backed up by performances from the Army Band.

Irish Country Fair traditions will see horticulture shows from small farm animals to champion bulls, along with country games, dog and pony shows, Irish farmers markets, crafts, cookery demonstrations and the baking the bastible. The sporting side of country life will be presented with falconry, clay pigeon shooting and gun dog training. There will be Irish dancing and live music performances throughout the Festival and entertainment for children will include pony rides and a fun fair. 

PROGRAMME OF EVENTS


1) Medieval Village by Fingal Living History Society including display of their living encampment – archery, craft making, preparation of food, sword fighting demonstrations and all kinds of historical re-enactments

2) Knights test their strength and mettle in horseback jousting by The Knights of Middle England. http://www.knightsofmiddleengland.com/

3) Food stalls and Cooking will wet your appetite or take time out and enjoy a break with Great Stuff caterers. Check out those craft stalls where you can get that unusual gift. Other events include - Pig On The Spit - Baking the Bastible Display - Cookery Demonstrations By Green Saffron Midleton - Cookery Demonstrations by Helen O Dowd Of Virginia Health - Butter Making by Mr. Raymond O Connell (Sunday Only) - Old Time Kitchen Supplied

4) Vintage Cars and Steam Engines a display of old vintage cars will take you back to the past and check out the Steam Engine Old Time Threshing. Vintage Display headed by Mr Jimmy McCarthy

5) Entertainment for all will keep the children or adults happy, such as - Irish Dancing - Face painting - Pat the Puppeteer Show - Dance Troupes - Children’s Sports - Funfair - - Bouncing Castles & Slide, Lucy Williams - Lucky Dip - Hook-a-duck - Pony rides supplied by Hop Island - Fortune Telling by Pearl Gray - Gladiators - Party Time Limited - Bucking Bull, Party Time Limited - Medieval Sports for Kids - Enjoy entertainment by the Army Band and an Army Band Display and check out the Irish Great War Society

6) Traditional Irish Country activities include - Displays of Animals, Small Farm Animals and Horse and Hound - Alpaca Animals displayed by Mr. and Mrs. Pat & Nora Casey - Fishing Activities - Sheaf Throwing, Spinning The Wool Display - Family Fun Dog Show organised by Mary Troy - Dog Agility Display – A1-K9 Boarding Kennels & Training Centre – with the A1-K9 Water Search and Rescue dog. - Trainers with their dogs from A1-K9 will be giving a display in Agility and Obedience - Pony Club Agility Display by Frances Whooley - Falcon Display by our own Mr. Vincent Cashman - Clay Pigeon Shooting by Mr Jim Davis & Mr. Gregg Hodnett - Sheep Shearing & Sheep Herding display by Mr. John Delaney - Exhibition of Gun Dogs given by Professional Trainer Mr. Frank Mansfield  - Blacksmith - Shoeing The Horse - Mad Irish Potter – Mr Michael O Donovan
Supreme Limousine Champion Bull displayed by Mr John O Grady - Donkey Sanctuary with the supervision of Mr. Paddy Barrett – Sunday Only - Old Time Threshing by Mr. Michael O’Driscoll - Steam Engine

7) Munster Vehicle re-enactment - Display of World War 2 allied & axis power vehicles & equipment.

8) Martial Arts Display - "Kendo" sword fighting

9) Irish Coastguard Historic Society - Captain Brian Smith
