Cork is preparing its world-renowned “Céad Míle Fáilte” for the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race with festivals in Kinsale and Cork. This free family festival will celebrate the Cork Clipper’s homecoming with the Kinsale Festival 02-07 July and in the Port of Cork from 07-09 July.

The Clipper Race is the only global competition where people from all walks of life can step out of their comfort zones and sign up to race 35,000-miles around the world. They come from backgrounds as varied as marketing executives, nurses, bankers, engineers and chief executives who represent more than 30 nationalities.

The Clipper yachts are expected to arrive between 01-04 July and the festival will start on Friday 02 July. Kinsale is an idyllic and picturesque town full of culture and ‘craic’. Supporters and crews alike will be treated to an array of entertainment which will include local and national circus acts and musicians, food and craft markets and live music at Kinsale Square.

On Wednesday 07 July the fleet will make its way in a parade of Sail to Cork Harbour. Cork City is no stranger to international celebrations; since playing host to the Tall Ships in 1991, Cork was crowned City of Culture in 2005 and very recently was named as one of Lonely Planet’s “Top Ten Cities 2010”. To celebrate the Cork Clipper’s homecoming in style the Port of Cork will be transformed into a Race Village with a large stage for music events and food, drinks and crafts stalls.

The Cork Clipper project is funded by Fáilte Ireland, Cork City Council and Cork County Council with the principal objective of promoting Cork as a tourism and business destination around the world. Working alongside Tourism Ireland, Cork is promoted to consumers, trade and the media in key markets that the race visits including Rio de Janeiro, South Africa, Western Australia, Singapore, Qingdao, California, Panama, Jamaica, New York and Cape Breton Island before returning to Cork culminating in this fantastic free family festival!
